ToolGPT

Split one video into several files

Attach a long video and say how to divide it. ToolGPT offers part counts and lengths worked out from your video's real duration, then makes each part as a separate file in your browser.

What it can do

  • Choices made for your video

Pick 2, 3 or 4 equal parts, or a new part every 30 seconds, 60 seconds or 5 minutes. Each card shows how many parts it would make.

  • Your own split points

Name the times and the video is divided exactly there.

  • Up to 50 parts

One request can make up to 50 parts, each a separate file, numbered in order.

  • Size limits, handled honestly

There is no size-based mode. ToolGPT turns a size limit into a number of parts and tells you the sizes will only be roughly equal.

  • One download if you want it

Ask ToolGPT to zip the parts, up to 1 GB in total, and save them all as a single file.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the video

Open ToolGPT and add the video with the + button, or drop it into the chat.

  2. 2

    Pick how to split

Tap one of the split cards, or say a number of parts, a length or the exact times.

  3. 3

    Download the parts

Each part appears as its own result with a download button. Your original video is not changed.

Three ways to divide a video

Equal parts suit a recording you want to share in even chunks: three parts of a 12-minute video are four minutes each. A fixed length suits lectures, streams and podcasts with video: every part has the same duration except the last one, which holds whatever remains. Exact times suit a video with natural breaks, such as chapters or songs.

The cards only offer what your video can do. A fixed-length card needs the video to be longer than that length and to come to no more than 50 parts, so a short clip may see just one or two choices.

What the parts look like

Parts are divided by time, so their file sizes are similar but not identical. Each part keeps the video's own format unless you name MP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV. AVI and FLV files can be split too, and their parts become MP4 files by default.

Each part may be re-encoded rather than copied as it is. The first part can sometimes be copied when the output format supports the video's codec, while later parts are re-encoded in your browser. To keep only one piece of a video, trim it instead of splitting it.

Frequently asked questions

How many parts can I make?

Up to 50 in one request. At 30 seconds per part, that covers 25 minutes of video.

Can I split an audio file?

Not with this tool. It needs a video with a picture. To shorten an audio file, trim it instead.

Will every part be the same size?

Roughly. Parts are cut by time, and a busy scene takes more space than a quiet one.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is split in your browser.
