ToolGPT

Speed up or slow down a video by asking

Turn a long tutorial into something you can watch in half the time, slow a sports clip down to see what happened, or speed up a podcast. Attach the file to ToolGPT, say how fast, and it retimes the whole thing in your browser.

How it works

  1. 1

Attach a video or audio file

Open ToolGPT and add a video, or an MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG, with the + button.

  2. 2

    Say how fast

Name a speed, or ask to see the options: cards for 0.25×, 0.5×, 1.5×, 2× and 4× each show how long the result will be.

  3. 3

    Download the retimed file

The new file appears in the chat. Every second of the original is kept — it just plays faster or slower.

Any speed from a quarter to four times

ToolGPT accepts any speed between 0.25× and 4×, not only the preset steps: "1.25×" or "make it 30% slower" work too. The whole file is retimed, so a ten-minute video at 2× becomes five minutes long. On a video, the picture and sound change speed together and stay in sync.

To make a file shorter by cutting a section out rather than playing it faster, ask ToolGPT to trim it instead. For a speed ramp, a freeze frame or a different speed on each clip, the timeline editor is the right tool, and the assistant can open it for you on a desktop browser.

Voices stay natural — unless you want otherwise

By default audio is time-stretched so speech keeps its normal pitch: a lecture at 1.5× sounds like a fast talker, not a cartoon. If you want the other effect — a "slowed" or "nightcore" version of a song, or a chipmunk voice — ask for it, and the pitch moves with the speed like a record played at the wrong speed.

Audio-only files are quick because there is no picture to re-encode. A processed MP3 comes back as an M4A, since browsers cannot write MP3; ask ToolGPT to convert it to MP3 afterwards if you need that exact format.

Playing audio backwards

ToolGPT can reverse an audio file so it plays backwards at the same length. This works on audio files only: it cannot reverse a video's picture yet. To reverse the soundtrack of a video, ask it to save the audio as its own file first and then reverse that.

Frequently asked questions

What speeds can I use?

Anything from 0.25× to 4×. Values outside that range are refused rather than silently changed.

Can I reverse a video?

Not the picture, at the moment. ToolGPT can reverse audio files, including a soundtrack you first save from a video.

Is the file uploaded?

No. Speed changes run in your browser.

Try it with your own file
