Convert MOV to WAV and keep just the sound

Need the soundtrack of a video on its own? Attach the MOV, ask ToolGPT for the audio as WAV, and download a file that plays anywhere audio does. The picture is left out, and the work happens in your browser.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the MOV

Open ToolGPT and press the + button beside the message box, or drop the video into the chat. No account is needed to start.

  2. 2

Ask for the audio as WAV

Type “Save the audio as WAV”. You can name a sample rate too, and a bitrate for compressed formats; anything you leave out follows the video's own audio.

  3. 3

    Download the WAV

The audio file appears as a card in the chat with a download button. The video is not changed.

Why convert MOV to WAV?

Editing the sound of an iPhone or Mac clip in Audacity, Logic Pro or another audio editor is easiest with a WAV file. You can name a sample rate, such as 48 kHz to match a video project, and the WAV keeps every sample uncompressed.

How ToolGPT pulls the audio out

The sound is extracted and converted in your browser with a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, so the video is not uploaded to a server. Only the audio is written to the new file.

A conversion changes the format and nothing about the sound itself: the length and loudness stay as they were. If you only need part of it, ask ToolGPT to trim the audio file afterwards.

About MOV

MOV is Apple's QuickTime container, the format iPhones record and Final Cut Pro exports. It can carry H.264, HEVC or ProRes video, which makes it a good editing format on a Mac. Outside Apple software it is less dependable: some Windows apps, websites and older players do not open it.

About WAV

WAV is the standard uncompressed audio format on Windows, created by Microsoft and IBM. It stores sound as plain PCM samples, so it is exact and opens in practically every audio editor. The cost is size: one minute of CD-quality stereo takes about 10 MB.

Frequently asked questions

Is the video uploaded to get its audio?

No. ToolGPT extracts the sound in your browser. Your messages go to the AI assistant, but the MOV file stays on your device.

Can I choose the audio quality?

Yes. Ask for a sample rate, and for compressed formats a bitrate such as 192 kbps. Settings you leave out match the video's own audio.

Can I keep only part of the sound?

Yes. After the conversion, ask ToolGPT to trim the audio file, for example “keep only 0:30 to 1:45”, and drag the range on the trim card.
