ToolGPT

Extract the audio from a video as its own file

Need the song from a concert clip, the talk from a recorded lecture or the voice from an interview? Attach the video to ToolGPT and ask for the audio. You get a separate audio file, made in your browser, and the video stays as it was.

What it can do

  • Common video formats in

MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI and FLV videos all work as the source.

  • Eight audio formats out

Save the sound as MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AAC, M4A or AIFF.

  • The soundtrack's quality kept

Without a bitrate from you, MP3 and the other compressed formats follow the quality of the video's own soundtrack, within 96 to 320 kb/s.

  • Your video is not touched

The extracted sound is a new file. The video itself is not changed or shortened.

  • Made in your browser

A WebAssembly build of FFmpeg runs inside the page, so the video is not sent anywhere to get the sound out.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the video

Drop the video into the ToolGPT chat, or add it with the + button. No account is needed.

  2. 2

    Ask for the audio

Say which format you want, such as MP3 for listening or WAV for editing. If you are not sure, ask the assistant which one suits your plan.

  3. 3

    Download the audio file

The audio appears as a card in the chat with a download button.

From video to audio file in one request

A video file carries its sound as a separate track. ToolGPT reads that track and writes it into a new audio file in the format you ask for. The picture is simply left out.

MP3 is the safe choice for listening on any phone or player. Choose WAV or FLAC if you plan to edit the sound, because they add no further compression. M4A suits Apple devices and keeps files small.

Good to know before you start

If a video has several audio tracks, for example two languages, ToolGPT saves the first one. That is usually the track a player uses by default.

A video without a sound track has no audio to give. ToolGPT tells you so instead of making a silent file. About 2 GB per video is the practical limit, because the browser reads the whole file.

Keep working on the sound

The extracted audio is a file in the chat like any other, so you can carry on with it. Ask ToolGPT to trim it to the part you need, play it backwards, or add an effect such as an echo. Each step makes a new file and leaves the previous one in place.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn an MP4 into an MP3?

Yes. Attach the MP4 and ask for the audio as an MP3. This is the most common request, and it runs in your browser.

Does it work with AVI or FLV videos?

Yes. MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI and FLV videos can all be used as the source.

Is the video uploaded to extract the sound?

No. The audio is extracted in your browser, and the video stays on your device.

Will the audio lose quality?

Choose WAV or FLAC to avoid any further loss. For MP3 and the other compressed formats, ToolGPT picks a bitrate that follows the quality of the soundtrack in your video.
