ToolGPT

Change a video's aspect ratio without cutting anything

Fit a wide video into a square or vertical frame, or a vertical video into 16:9, by adding bars around the whole picture. ToolGPT previews each shape on your own frame, then makes the new copy in your browser.

What it can do

  • Four shapes

Square 1:1, Portrait 4:5, Tall 9:16 and Wide 16:9, each previewed on your own frame.

  • Three backgrounds

The bars are a blurred copy of your video by default, or plain black or white.

  • Nothing is cut

The whole picture is kept and fitted inside the new frame.

  • Size follows your video

The long edge stays the same: a 1920×1080 clip becomes 1920×1920 as a square, or 1080×1920 as 9:16.

  • Everything else unchanged

The frame rate, length and format stay as they were, unless you name another format.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the video

Open ToolGPT and add the video with the + button, or drop it into the chat.

  2. 2

    Pick the shape and background

Name the shape you need. Check the preview cards, and ask for black or white bars if you prefer them to the blur.

  3. 3

    Download the new video

Tap a card. The padded copy appears with a download button, and the original stays as it was.

Adding bars instead of cutting

There are two ways to change a video's shape. Cropping cuts off edges, so part of the picture is lost. Padding, which this tool does, keeps every part of the picture: the whole frame is placed in the center of the new shape and the empty space around it is filled.

The cards show the real result before anything runs. That matters most for big changes: a wide clip in a 9:16 frame takes up only a band across the middle, and the rest is background. If that is not what you want, cropping may suit the video better.

When another tool fits better

If the video is going to a particular platform, such as TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts, name it. ToolGPT then uses its social media recipe, which also applies the platform's size, frame rate and length limits.

Padding adds pixels, so the new file is usually larger than the original. If you also need a smaller file, ask ToolGPT to compress the result afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose another color for the bars?

This tool offers a blur of the video, black or white. Other colors are not available here.

Can I place the picture off center?

No. The picture is always centered in the new frame.

Will it change the length of my video?

No. The length and the frame rate stay the same; only the shape of the frame changes.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The bars are added in your browser.
