ToolGPT

Change the speed of a video or audio file

Speed a video up, slow it down, or retime an audio file on its own. Pick a card or name any speed between 0.25× and 4×, and ToolGPT makes the new file in your browser.

What it can do

  • Five quick choices

Cards for 0.25×, 0.5×, 1.5×, 2× and 4× each show how long the result will be.

  • Any speed in the range

Name any value from 0.25× to 4×, such as 1.25×. A speed outside that range is refused, not quietly changed.

  • Natural voices

Sound is time-stretched by default, so speech keeps its normal pitch.

  • Tape effect on request

Ask for the pitch to move with the speed, like a record played too fast or too slow.

  • Video or audio

On a video, picture and sound change speed together. An MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG on its own is quick, because there is no picture to re-encode.

How it works

  1. 1

Attach a video or audio file

Press the + button beside the message box, or drop the file into the chat.

  2. 2

    Choose the speed

Ask to speed it up or slow it down. Tap a card, or name the exact speed you want.

  3. 3

    Download the result

The retimed file appears with a download button. The original is not changed.

Speed and length go together

A speed change keeps every second of the content and changes how fast it plays. At 2× a ten-minute video lasts five minutes; at 0.5× it lasts twenty. The cards show the new length for your file, so you can choose by duration if that is what matters.

If you want a shorter file because part of it is not needed, trimming is the better tool. When you only say “make it shorter”, ToolGPT asks whether you mean faster or cut down.

What happens to the sound

By default the sound is time-stretched, so a lecture at 1.5× sounds like a quick speaker rather than a cartoon. If you want the other effect, such as a “slowed” version of a song, ask for the pitch to change with the speed.

On a video, the picture and sound always change speed together, so they stay in sync. A processed MP3 comes back as an M4A, because no browser can write MP3 files directly. Ask ToolGPT to convert it to MP3 afterwards if you need that format.

Frequently asked questions

Can I speed up only one part of a video?

No. This tool changes the speed of the whole file.

Can I change the pitch without changing the speed?

Not with this tool. ToolGPT has a separate audio effect for that.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The speed change runs in your browser.
