Add audio effects such as an echo, more bass or a chipmunk voice

Want your voice to sound like a phone call, a song with more bass, or a funny chipmunk clip? Attach the audio or video to ToolGPT and describe the sound. It shows the effect presets, you tap one, and the new file is made in your browser.

What it can do

  • Seven presets

Slapback, Echo, Bass, Treble, Telephone, Deeper and Chipmunk, plus “As it is” to leave the sound alone.

  • Same length every time

No preset makes the file longer. On a video, the picture is copied untouched and stays in sync.

  • A warning before distortion

Bass, Treble and the echoes make audio louder. The cards measure your file's peak level and say when loud parts would distort.

  • Your own pitch shift

Deeper and Chipmunk accept any shift from seven semitones down to seven semitones up.

  • Audio or video

Use it on an audio file or on the soundtrack of a video.

  • Made in your browser

The effect is applied on your device, and the original file is never modified.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach audio or video

Add the audio file or video to the chat with the + button. No account is needed.

  2. 2

    Pick a preset

Describe the sound you want, or ask to see the effects. Tap the card you like.

  3. 3

    Download the new file

The file with the effect appears in the chat with a download button.

What each effect does

Slapback adds one short repeat close behind the sound. Echo adds three softer repeats. Bass lifts everything below about 120 Hz by 6 dB. Treble lifts the top end by 5 dB.

Telephone keeps only the 300 to 3,400 Hz band a phone line carries, so the sound turns thin. Deeper moves the pitch down four semitones, and Chipmunk moves it up seven. You can also ask for a different shift, such as “two semitones down”.

Same length, in sync with your video

Every preset keeps the file exactly as long as it was. The last repeat of an echo is cut off at the end instead of making the file longer. On a video, only the sound is processed and the picture is copied as it is, so even a long video finishes much faster than a full re-encode.

Each request applies one effect. To combine two, apply one and then the next to that result. Each step encodes the sound again, so fewer steps keep more quality.

What it does not do

There is no reverb. ToolGPT leaves it out on purpose, because a reverb that is not tuned by ear tends to sound worse than none. To make a whole file louder or quieter, ask ToolGPT to change the volume, which is a separate tool.

An MP3 comes back as an M4A after an effect, because browsers have no built-in way to write MP3. Ask ToolGPT to convert the result to MP3 if you need that format.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a reverb or a robot voice?

Not at the moment. The presets are Slapback, Echo, Bass, Treble, Telephone, Deeper and Chipmunk.

Why did my MP3 come back as an M4A?

Browsers have no built-in way to write MP3, so a processed MP3 is saved as an M4A. Ask ToolGPT to convert the result to MP3 if you need one.

Can I use an effect on a video?

Yes. The effect is applied to the video's sound, and the picture is left exactly as it was.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Effects are applied in your browser.
