Remove background noise from speech

Traffic, a humming fridge or a noisy room can make a recording hard to follow. Attach the voice note, interview or video to ToolGPT and ask it to remove the background noise. A cloud service cleans the sound and keeps the voice.

What it can do

  • Made for speech

It removes noise around a voice in voice notes, calls, interviews, lectures and podcast clips.

  • Audio files and videos

Attach either one. For a video, the cleaned sound replaces the original soundtrack.

  • Clean audio as an MP3

The cleaned sound is saved as an MP3 file. For a video, you get that MP3 as well as the video.

  • The picture stays on your device

For a video, only the audio is sent, and the cleaned sound is put back in your browser.

  • Upload only after permission

A permission card explains the upload first, and nothing starts until you choose.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the recording

Open ToolGPT and add the audio file or video with the + button. An account is optional.

  2. 2

    Ask and allow the upload

Say “remove the background noise”. On the permission card, choose Allow once or Allow for this tab.

  3. 3

    Download the clean version

When processing finishes, the result appears in the chat with a download button.

How the noise reducer works

ToolGPT takes the sound from your file and makes an MP3 copy of it in your browser. That copy goes to ToolGPT's Noise Reducer cloud service, which removes the background noise and keeps the voice. The cleaned audio comes back to the chat as an MP3.

For a video, ToolGPT then puts the cleaned sound back under your picture in your browser. You get the video with clearer speech, and the cleaned audio is also saved on its own.

What it is for

The noise reducer is built for speech: someone talking over traffic, a hum or a busy room. It is not meant for separating a singer from music. The vocal remover and the acapella maker do that job.

It takes noise away and adds nothing. For an effect such as an echo or a deeper voice, use ToolGPT's audio effects instead.

Uploads and permission

This is one of the few ToolGPT tools that uses a server. Only the audio is sent, never the video picture. A permission card appears before the first upload and names the file it is about.

No account is needed. Guests can clean a limited amount of audio each day, and that limit is shared with the vocal remover and the acapella maker. When you are signed in, jobs use your account's allowance instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is my recording uploaded?

The audio is, once you allow it, because the noise reduction runs on a cloud service. For a video, the picture never leaves your device.

Can I use it on a video?

Yes. The cleaned sound is put back under the original picture, and you also get the clean audio as an MP3.

Does it work on music?

It is made for speech. To remove a voice from music, or music from a voice, use the vocal remover or the acapella maker.

Do I need an account?

No. Guests can clean audio up to a daily limit.
