ToolGPT

Turn any moment of a video into a GIF

Reaction clips, product demos, a funny second from a family video: tell ToolGPT which part you want — "from 0:12 to 0:16" — and it offers three GIF sizes made for your video. Tap one and the looping GIF is created right in your browser.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach your file

Open ToolGPT and press the + button beside the message box, or drop the file into the chat. No account is needed to start.

  2. 2

Name the moment and pick a size

Say which seconds you want (or let it take the first 10). ToolGPT shows Small, Medium and Large options sized for your video.

  3. 3

    Download the GIF

Tap a size. The GIF appears in the chat, already looping, with a download button.

Three sizes, chosen for your video

GIF is an old format and gets heavy quickly, so size matters. ToolGPT offers Small (320 pixels wide at 8 frames per second), Medium (480 px at 10 fps) and Large (720 px at 12 fps). A card is never wider than your video: if the clip is only 600 px wide, the large option becomes 600 px and says so, instead of blowing the picture up.

If you already know what you want, skip the cards: "make it 400 pixels wide at 12 fps" goes straight to the result. Width can go up to 960 px and the frame rate up to 15 fps; the height always follows the video's shape.

Pick the moment in plain words

Timestamps work the way you would say them: "from 1:05 to 1:09", "the last three seconds", "the first 5 seconds". Without a range, ToolGPT uses the first ten seconds. A single GIF can cover up to 30 seconds — beyond that the files become enormous — and a longer request is refused with an explanation rather than quietly shortened.

Want it faster or slower? Change the video's speed first, then make the GIF from that result. ToolGPT can chain the two in one request.

Made on your device

The GIF is encoded in your browser with a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, using a two-pass colour palette so the result looks cleaner than a naive conversion. Your video is not uploaded anywhere to make it. Finished GIFs stay in the chat and on the Output Files page in this browser until you delete them.

Frequently asked questions

How long can the GIF be?

Up to 30 seconds per GIF. Shorter clips make smaller, smoother files.

Can I make a GIF from a GIF or a photo?

No, the source has to be a video. To remake a GIF, point ToolGPT at the video it came from.

Is my video uploaded to make the GIF?

No. The GIF is created in your browser.
