Fade a video or a song in and out

A hard cut at the start or end of a clip can feel abrupt. Attach a video or an audio file to ToolGPT, say “fade it out”, and pick a length. The fade is added in your browser, and every second of your file is kept.

What it can do

  • In, out or both

Fade at the start, at the end, or at both ends of the file.

  • Quick picks or any length

Cards for half a second, one second and two seconds, or name any length up to 30 seconds.

  • Picture and sound together

The picture fades from or to black and the sound ramps with it, unless you ask for just one.

  • Fast sound-only fades

Fading only the sound copies the picture without re-encoding it, so it is quick even on a long video.

  • Audio files too

MP3, WAV, M4A and OGG files fade the same way.

How it works

  1. 1

Attach a video or audio file

Add it with the + button or drop it into the chat.

  2. 2

    Choose the fade

Name a length, or tap a card. Each card says which seconds it changes, such as the last 2 seconds of a 1:30 clip.

  3. 3

    Download the faded copy

The new file appears in the chat. The original is not modified.

Options in your file's own timing

A fade happens over time, so one still frame cannot show it. Instead of a made-up preview, each option states what will change in your file: the first second, or the last two seconds before the end. The presets run from a quick half-second fade at both ends to two seconds. For a slower fade, name the length, up to 30 seconds at each end.

What a fade does and does not do

A fade keeps every second of your file. If you want the ending removed rather than faded, ask ToolGPT to trim the video instead.

Fades happen only at the two ends. This tool does not dip to black in the middle of a video or blend one clip into the next. To change the volume of the whole track by one amount, use the volume changer.

For songs and voice recordings

On an audio file, the fade applies to the sound alone. You can save the result as M4A, WAV, OGG, Opus or AAC. Browsers cannot write MP3, so a faded MP3 comes back as an M4A; ask ToolGPT to convert it to MP3 afterwards if you need that format. Everything runs in your browser, so the file is not uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What is the longest fade?

30 seconds at each end.

Will a fade make my video shorter?

No. Every second stays; only the start or end fades from or to black.

Can I fade the sound but not the picture?

Yes. Ask for a sound-only fade and the picture is left exactly as it was.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Fades are applied in your browser.
