ToolGPT

Make a video or audio file louder or quieter

A phone recording that is too quiet, a clip that is too loud, a video you want silent: attach the file to ToolGPT and say “louder” or “mute it”. The new level is applied in your browser, and the picture is left untouched.

What it can do

  • Quick choices

Mute, 50%, 150% and 200%, next to an “As it is” card.

  • Any level up to 4×

Name a level such as “70%” or “three times as loud”, anywhere from silence to four times the original.

  • Clipping warnings

The cards are measured against your own audio, so an option that would distort says so before you tap it.

  • Picture left as is

On a video only the sound is processed. The picture is copied without re-encoding, so even large files are quick.

  • Audio files too

MP3, WAV, M4A and OGG files work on their own. A processed MP3 comes back as an M4A.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the file

Add a video or an audio file with the + button.

  2. 2

    Say louder, quieter or mute

Name a level, or ask to see the options and tap one.

  3. 3

    Download

The adjusted file appears in the chat. Your original keeps its old volume.

Louder without surprises

Turning sound up has a ceiling: past full scale, the loudest parts are cut off and sound harsh. Before you choose, ToolGPT measures a sample of your audio and marks any option that would push it past that point. If you go ahead anyway, the result reports how much of the sound was clipped.

The sound is decoded and encoded once, at your file's own bitrate. On a video, the picture is copied as it is, so it loses no quality. Muting removes the sound track from the file entirely.

One level for the whole file

The volume changer moves the whole track by one amount. For sound that rises at the start or drops away at the end, use a fade instead. It does not separate sounds either: removing background music, removing vocals and cleaning up hiss are separate tools.

It cannot add sound to a file that has none, so such a file is refused rather than given an empty track. All of this runs in your browser, so the file is not uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How much louder can it make a file?

Up to four times the original level. Strong boosts may clip, and ToolGPT warns you first.

Will changing the volume lower the video quality?

No. Only the sound is processed; the picture is copied without being re-encoded.

Can it make the quiet parts louder and the loud parts quieter?

No. It changes the whole track by the same amount.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The volume change happens in your browser.
