ToolGPT

Video converter for MP4, MOV, WEBM and MKV

Attach a video in a common format and say which format you need. ToolGPT reads MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI and FLV, writes MP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV, and does the work in your browser.

What it can do

  • Common formats in, four formats out

MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI and FLV files can be opened. The result is an MP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV file.

  • Size, frame rate and bitrate

Ask for 720p, 30 fps or a target bitrate in the same message, or leave every setting as it is.

  • Copies when it can

When only the container changes and the new format already supports the video's codec, the picture can be copied instead of re-encoded. That is faster and keeps the quality.

  • Standard codecs

A re-encoded picture becomes H.264 in MP4, MOV and MKV, and VP9 in WEBM. Sound the new format cannot hold becomes AAC, or Opus in WEBM.

  • Several files in one request

Attach a batch and ask once. ToolGPT shows the plan, and each file runs as its own job.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the video

Press the + button beside the message box, or drop the file into the chat. You do not need an account to start.

  2. 2

    Name the format

Say “MP4”, “MOV” or “WEBM”, or describe where the file is going. Add a resolution or frame rate if you need one.

  3. 3

    Download the new file

The converted video appears as a card with a download button. Your original file is not changed.

Which format should you choose?

MP4 is the safe default. It plays on almost every phone, computer and TV, so it is the right choice when you are not sure. MOV is the format Apple devices record, and many Mac editing apps work with it. WEBM is designed for the web, which makes it a good fit for a video on a web page. MKV is popular for films and recordings because it can hold several audio tracks.

You can also skip the format names. Tell ToolGPT where the video is going, such as “so it plays on my TV” or “for my website”, and the assistant chooses a format and settings from the file's real details.

What happens to the quality

A conversion that only changes the container can keep the video stream exactly as it is. When the picture has to be re-encoded, because of a new codec, a smaller size or a different frame rate, ToolGPT uses your browser's built-in video encoder where it can. Where it cannot, a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg does the job instead, which is slower.

If the first result is not what you wanted, say so. A follow-up such as “keep the original resolution” redoes the job and replaces the earlier result instead of adding another copy.

Limits worth knowing

Files of up to about 2 GB each work in a typical browser. AVI and FLV files, which browsers cannot play on their own, are opened with the FFmpeg build. An AVI or FLV larger than 512 MB can still become MP4, MOV or MKV, but not WEBM. ToolGPT does not write AVI, FLV or 3GP files.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded to convert it?

No. The conversion runs in your browser. Your messages and basic facts about the file, such as its name, length and size, go to the AI assistant, but the video itself stays on your device.

Can I keep only the audio?

Yes. Ask for the sound as an MP3, WAV, M4A or another audio format, and ToolGPT saves the soundtrack as its own file.

Can it convert to AVI or 3GP?

No. The video formats it writes are MP4, MOV, WEBM and MKV.

Do I need to install anything?

No. ToolGPT runs in a web page, on a computer or a phone.
