Resize a video for Instagram Reels

The Reels recipe gives your video the vertical 1080×1920 frame and keeps up to 90 seconds, the longest window of ToolGPT's vertical recipes. Attach the clip, say “post it as a reel”, and choose how to fill the space around your picture.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach your clip

Add the video with the + button. Landscape, square and vertical videos all work, and no account is needed to start.

  2. 2

    Adjust the Reels card

Say it is for Reels. The card previews your video in the 9:16 frame; pick a background and, for a long video, move the 90-second window.

  3. 3

    Apply and save

Press Apply. The finished MP4 appears in the chat, ready to download and post.

90 seconds, the longest vertical recipe

ToolGPT has four vertical recipes: TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and WhatsApp Status. Reels keeps the most, up to 90 seconds. A longer video opens with its first 90 seconds selected. Drag the window along the card's filmstrip, or tell ToolGPT which part to use, such as “the last 90 seconds” or “from 0:45”.

If you switch the same card to TikTok or Shorts, the window shrinks to 60 seconds and keeps its start point where it can.

How the picture sits in the frame

The output is 1080×1920 with H.264 video and AAC audio. Your whole picture is scaled to fit inside that frame, and nothing is cut from the sides. A landscape clip sits in the middle with a background above and below it: a blur of the same video by default, or black, white or a solid color.

The blur has two sliders, strength and darken. Darken affects only the background, so a busy blurred band can be calmed down without dimming your video.

Frequently asked questions

What if I want the video in my Instagram grid instead?

Use the Instagram Feed recipe. It makes a 4:5 portrait video at 1080×1350, a different shape from the Reels recipe.

Does the frame rate change?

Only if it is above 60 fps. The Reels recipe keeps your video's own frame rate up to 60 and never adds frames.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The Reels recipe runs in your browser. Only your chat messages and basic file details go to the assistant.
