ToolGPT

Compress JPG photos with sizes you can rely on

Attach one JPG or a whole set and ask ToolGPT to make them smaller. You get up to four options, each with a size worked out for your own photos, and the new JPGs are made in your browser when you tap one.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach your JPG photos

Add one photo or several with the + button. The same settings apply to every photo in the set.

  2. 2

    Pick an option

ToolGPT offers up to four choices: Recommended, High quality, Small file and Smallest. Every card shows the new size and the percentage saved. Tap one, or name a size limit instead.

  3. 3

    Download the smaller JPGs

You get a new file for every photo, and the originals are kept. To download many at once, ask for a ZIP.

It reads how your JPG was saved

A JPG has already been compressed once, and how much more it can lose depends on the quality it was saved at. ToolGPT reads that quality from the file itself before it estimates anything. With that number, the size on each option is a ceiling: the new file will be no larger, and it usually comes out smaller.

Because of this, an option that cannot help is not shown. If a JPG was already saved at about the quality the High quality option uses, re-encoding it would cost sharpness and add bytes, so that option is left out. If no option can make the photo smaller, ToolGPT tells you why, and a smaller pixel size is usually the way forward.

Fit a photo under a size limit

Upload forms often ask for a photo under a set size, such as 200 KB or 1 MB. Name the limit, and ToolGPT lowers the JPEG quality one step at a time until the photo fits. It keeps the pixel size you chose, and it does not go below quality 30.

If the photo still does not fit, you get the smallest size it reached instead of a file that breaks the limit. The usual fix is to make the photo smaller in pixels too, for example half its width, and try again. A size limit applies to one photo at a time.

What changes, and what does not

The compressed photo is a new JPG by default, or a WEBP if you ask, which is usually smaller at the same quality. Details stored inside the file, such as the date, the camera model and any location tag, are removed in the process. Your original file is never modified, and all of the work runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Do my photos leave my device?

No. Compression happens in your browser, on your own device.

Can I compress many JPGs at once?

Yes. Add them all to one message. Each photo gets the same option and comes back as its own file.

Why is the High quality option missing?

Your photo was already saved at about that quality or lower, so that option would not make it smaller. Only the options that can make it smaller are shown.

Does compression remove the photo's location?

Yes. The file's metadata is removed, including any location tag and camera details.
